INKA PEOPLES - New School Construction

MUNAYPATA, Peru

Purpose: New School Construction

Start Date: September, 2013

Funding Level: $25,000

Lives Directly Impacted: 250

SUMMARY

The Inti Raymi Fund visited Peru and provided financial support for the construction of a new school and restrooms for the Indigenous Inka/Quechua Peoples in the mountain village of Munaypata, Peru.

THE BIRTH OF INTI RAYMI FUND

Peru, the place that stole my heart, that renews my soul and spirit.  It allows me to be free and think like a free man, without constraints, where every day is a new beginning; where, I can begin again and follow the path I was intended to take.  I can fly and I can dream. This is where it began for me, this journey.  The womb of this land gave birth to the idea of the Inti Raymi Fund; it grew until it became tangible.  Every moment and every action has lead me to be here, and to do this

EXPERIENCING SHARING WITH OTHERS

Chimu invited as personal guests and supported 20 people to experience what the Inti Raymi Fund was really about.  One cannot describe in writings or photos, the invaluable lessons experienced while traveling and helping others abroad.  Accordingly, we spent roughly two weeks in Peru, visiting several existing Inti Raymi Fund Projects as well experiencing a new project start up – the construction of a new school.

We had roughly 10 of the 20 guests present for the commencement of the new school project in the village of Munaypata, situated up in the mountains outside Cuzco.  We met for several hours with the community, their families, children and a teacher. The idea quickly surfaced for a new school, so their village’s children wouldn’t have to travel hours each way through uncertain terrain and inclement weather to attend school daily.  As always, the Inti Raymi Fund leaves it to the community as a whole to decide what is best for them.

The community broke ground for the new school building in September of 2013, and the project was completed January 2014. Upon completion, this project immediately improved the lives of the community, especially the children of the village.
