The Sustainability Triangle
Sustainable development refers to the “triangle” economic, social and environmental issues, with equal importance. Given the current state of environmental destruction observed globally, sustainable development is an increasingly paramount necessity for the continuation and development of human society. Food production is arguably the biggest sustainability challenge we currently face; its multifaceted approach presents a plethora of opportunities for investigation. The food system presents a paradox: we cannot do without food, yet, given the manner in which we currently produce it, we are significantly lowering our ability to maintain
a sustained and live-able planet for all.
IRF and Organic Farming
Organic agriculture alone is not in a position to generate radical change; it does however offer a model that brings with it a way to rethink, reassess and re-establish society’s relationship to the food system. Fundamentally, Organic Agriculture goes beyond agricultural production technique, to incorporate a heavily philosophical belief regarding economic, social and environmental wellbeing, which finds itself more suitably placed within the school of strong sustainability. According to many, organic agriculture, and more sustainable practice, is about reconnecting “food, farm and community” in a way which does not deplete our natural, social and human capital.
Food, Farm and People
Since the establishment of Inti Raymi Fund, we have been taking steps into helping struggling communities all over the world, most of our work is with indigenous people and in some of the projects our funds were used to help indigenous people to upgrade their technical abilities by using our funds to buy new equipment, learn new methods or just expanding their work to support their families, their communities and save our earth. But this time all our funds were used to include all these activities.
IRF Support
Inti Raymi Fund has offered the following:
1- Micro-Grants for small organic farmers who comes from economically struggling communities
2- Professional mentoring for farmers who were interested in learning new methods to combat common disease to improve the quality of their products
3- Provide access to “Friday markets” for remote farmers
Lesson learned
Inti Raymi Fund
We learned organic farming values does match with our values at Inti Raymi Fund, respect to all people is exactly what farmers are doing by providing natural and healthy food for their communities. Taking care of the environment and our only home, earth. 3 out 8 farmers we supported had some refugees working there, these farmers opened their homes, farms and hearts for these struggling refugees to provide hope and give sense of unity.
We hope you find our project in Italy a plant of hope and a way to help promote more sustainable solutions for our complex environmental challenges. We also recommend you to watch COWSPIRACY: The Sustainability Secret in hope we all can rethink the way we eat not only in order to save our plant but also to save vulnerable communities who are threatened or dealing now with the impact of the climate change.
